The Lowell and Muriel Morris Advanced Imaging Center on the Woodland Healthcare campus was recently dedicated and renamed after the prominent Dixon family. Lowell Morris, a Woodland native, passed away in 2007 and left a gift valued at $630,000 to the Foundation for the hospital.
“We are grateful for such a large and meaningful gift that will provide necessary ongoing funding to meet the costs of critical enhancements to this campus,” said Aaron Schmoekel, president of the Woodland Healthcare Foundation. “The special legacy gift from the Morris family is just one example of how community support makes a real difference in healthcare for the entire region.”
In attendance at the dedication were Morris family members including Margaret Duncan, sister, and Lynne Gough, niece. John Onsum, executor of the Morris estate, as well as Dixon Mayor Jack Batchelor and Woodland Mayor Skip Davies were also on hand to show their support.
Lowell was born and raised in Woodland and worked in the family farming operation until he moved to Dixon. Lowell invented and manufactured the first irrigation siphon pipes. The family business also transitioned to the manufacture of tent frames and stakes. Lowell was a long-time Dixon city council member while Muriel built a 30-year career as a teacher. According to Onsum, “Lowell was known as a fan of technology – he always had the latest electronics and gadgets. He was also an avid photographer. So it is fitting that the Advanced Imaging Center is named after him.”
The Advanced Imaging Center is located at 1321 Cottonwood Street in Woodland. The center is all-digital with equipment including a CT scan, ultrasound and MRI. Images are captured and stored digitally on a Picture Archiving Computer system.
